Lawrence men indicted on drug, firearm charges
Two Lawrence men were indicted by a federal grand jury Monday, charged with drug and firearm offenses.
Thomas R. Peterson, 24, and James B. Waterman, 29, were charged together on one count of unlawfully possessing a sawed-off shotgun and one count of possessing a firearm while under the influence of an illegal drug, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Kansas.
Peterson also faces additional charges of possessing a firearm while under indictment, possessing a stolen firearm, and other drug-related charges.
If convicted, Waterman could face up to 15 years, while Peterson could face up to 45 years and more than $1 million in fines.
The crimes were alleged to have occurred in 2004 and 2005 in Jefferson County. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case.
