Mangino promotes 2 assistants

Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino continues to move assistants up the coaching ladder while working on swallowing the loss of Dave Doeren.

Clint Bowen and Earnest Collins were the latest to receive promotions. Mangino announced Friday that Bowen had been named co-defensive coordinator, while Collins now serves as special-teams coordinator.

Doeren, who left KU for Wisconsin last month, previously was co-defensive coordinator.

Bowen assumes that role after serving as special-teams coordinator the past three seasons. Collins will move into Bowen’s old role.

Bowen has been on the staff since 1998 under former coach Terry Allen. He was a free safety at KU from 1990-93.

Collins had been on staff since 2003, coaching the cornerbacks.

KU still has to fill the role of linebackers coach vacated by Doeren. Tight ends coach Brandon Blaney moved into the recruiting-coordinator spot also occupied previously by Doeren.
