Third provost finalist announced

Richard W. Lariviere, dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin, is the third finalist announced for the provost and executive vice chancellor position at Kansas University.

Lariviere is vying for the position that will be vacated by David Shulenburger, who will leave the post later this year.

Lariviere also serves as the Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker chair in the humanities and a fellow in the IC2 Institute, a research center.

He will give a public presentation from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday at the Dole Institute of Politics.

Other candidates are Jack Burns, vice president for academic affairs and research for the University of Colorado System, and Virginia Sapiro, interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Burns will speak at 4 p.m. today at the Dole Institute.

Sapiro visited campus last month.
