KU theater student nominated for award

Kansas University student Candice Bondank of Overland Park has been nominated for one of the 2006 Denver Post Ovation Awards.

Bondank, a senior theater and voice major, was named as a finalist for best supporting actress in a musical for her performance in “Sweeney Todd” at the Creede Repertory Theatre in Creede, Colo.

This year, 31 Colorado theater companies and 70 productions received at least one nomination for an Ovation Award. The Denver Post chose the finalists from the 164 plays and musicals its five critics viewed in 2006. The Post’s winners will be announced Sunday.

The Creede Repertory Theatre, which was started more than 40 years ago by a group of KU theater students, received 11 Ovation Award nominations, including “Sweeney Todd” as best musical.
