County to advertise for bridge bids next week
Douglas County commissioners met briefly Wednesday night to approve a resolution that takes care of a legal detail concerning repairs to the Kansas River bridge at Lecompton.
The resolution states that the county determines that it is necessary to make bridge repairs in excess of $250,000. County Counselor Evan Ice had said commissioners needed the resolution to comply with state law.
The county will start advertising for bids for the bridge project next week. Cost estimates for the project range from $1.7 million to $2 million, excluding painting the bridge superstructure.
On another matter, Commissioner Charles Jones said clarifications are being made to a few details in the new rural subdivision regulations the county forwarded to the Lawrence City Commission a few weeks ago. Jones met with Mayor Mike Amyx, Commissioner Boog Highberger and representatives of the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission earlier this week.
The city might vote on the subdivision regulations next week.
