LHS girls roll to 71-35 win

? Sophomore Taylor Bird and senior Katelyn Hobbs combined to score more than Kansas City Washington’s team in Lawrence High’s 71-35 girls basketball rout Tuesday.

Bird had 24 points and Hobbs 12 for the Lions. Eight players scored for LHS.

“Taylor set the tone for us,” Lawrence coach Kristen Mallory said. “She does a nice job distributing the ball, getting it to people in scoring position.”

As pleased as she was with the Lions’ 71 points scored, Mallory was more impressed with the 35 points allowed.

“We played a very athletic team, and we did a good job of taking our strengths and containing them,” Mallorys aid. “I definitely credit our team defense. We didn’t shoot that well. We shot OK, but we missed a lot of opportunities and still scored 71. And we kept them under 40, which is a big push for me.”

The Lions (2-1) will play host to Shawnee Mission Northwest on Thursday.
