Judge postpones date of Granada murder trial

A judge on Friday postponed a trial for a man charged in a deadly shooting outside a downtown night club to give defense attorneys more time to watch 143 videotaped police interviews with witnesses.

Mark Manna, a defense attorney for Rashawn T. Anderson, said the defense received the videos in late November and wouldn’t have time to watch them all before the Jan. 22 trial.

“We do feel that we are under an obligation to watch all these DVDs,” Manna said.

The prosecutor, Assistant District Attorney Trent Krug, objected to the delay, saying that the state anticipated calling only 40 to 45 witnesses and that the interviews were summarized in written reports given to the defense weeks ago.

But Judge Paula Martin agreed to Manna’s request and scheduled a tentative trial date for March 5.

Anderson is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 46-year-old Robert Earl Williams, who was shot and killed after an argument Feb. 5 outside The Granada, 1020 Mass.
