‘Difficult Dialogues’ to feature Gamble, Schmidt

Kansas University will host a panel discussion today in the “Difficult Dialogues: Knowledge, Faith and Reason” series.

The panel will feature Sue Gamble, member of the Kansas State Board of Education; Bishop Scott Jones of the United Methodist Church; KU Provost Richard Lariviere; Derek Schmidt, Kansas Senate majority leader; and Edward O. Wiley, professor of ecology and evolutionary biology.

The series is sponsored by The Commons, a joint venture of the Hall Center for the Humanities and the Biodiversity Institute.

The event will be at 3:30 p.m. today in the conference hall of the Hall Center.

The dialogue series has featured experts from around the country discussing the roles of reason and faith in people’s lives, including speakers offering different opinions of the role of religion in biology.

Also today, Michael J. Behe, senior fellow of the Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture and author of “Darwin’s Black Box: The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution,” will speak at 1 p.m. in the Crafton-Preyer Theatre in Murphy Hall.
