Report: Police seize $245 in counterfeit
Lawrence Police seized more than $200 in counterfeit money Wednesday after a grocery store employee reported a fake $5 bill.
Police were called shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday after an employee at Dillons, 1015 W. 23rd St., reported someone trying to pay with a bogus bill. Officers stopped the suspect’s vehicle near 24th Street and Eddingham Drive.
They arrested 27-year-old Francisco Ramirez-Benito, of Lawrence, for “making a false writing.”
According to a report, officers recovered $245 in suspected counterfeit bills. But Lawrence Police spokeswoman Kim Murphree said Thursday she could not say how that money was found.
The case remains under investigation.
