An Ottawa man was flown to a Kansas City area hospital with life-threatening injuries Thursday night after a two-vehicle accident about one-half mile south of the Baldwin Junction.

Allen Bishop, 35, Ottawa, was driving a 1999 GMC Utility truck northbound on U.S. Highway 59 at 6:55 p.m. when it struck the rear driver’s side of a southbound 1994 Ford truck, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

Bishop’s truck then left the road, ran into a tree and stopped in the west ditch facing east.

The Ford, driven by 18-year-old Ashton Heck, Westphalia, spun around and ended up on the southbound side of the road facing north.

Bishop was flown by a LifeStar helicopter ambulance to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., according to the report. He was not wearing his seat belt.

Heck and a passenger in his truck were not injured.
