Law enforcement report
¢ The kitchen of a single-story home on Tennessee Street caught fire Tuesday afternoon after flames in a pan grew out of control.
The fire was first reported at 1:41 p.m. Tuesday, when a baby sitter was watching two children at 2241 Tenn.
Two engines, a ladder truck and an ambulance from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical responded and contained the flames to the kitchen, but smoke damaged the rest of the house, Battalion Chief Jerry Karr said.
No one was injured. The baby sitter and the two children were outside when fire and medical crews arrived, Karr said.
Damage was estimated at $25,000.
Officials from the Red Cross were assisting the family.
Burglaries and thefts reported
¢ 3400 block of Augusta Drive: A 20-year-old Kansas University student had his $2,000 Dell laptop computer, glasses, contact lenses and iPod stolen from his home between midnight and 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
