Law enforcement report

¢ The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has completed an investigation into possible stolen vehicles and auto parts from a northwestern county residence, valued at more than $10,000, and forwarded it to Dist. Atty. Charles Branson’s office, said Lt. Kari Wempe, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.

Wempe said officers have identified two suspects as a 19-year-old man and a 64-year-old man, who live outside Douglas County. Wempe said there is a dispute between the property owner, a Maple Hill woman, and the two suspects as to whether the vehicles and parts were available to take from the property.

¢ Lawrence police officers have sent a driver-impaired test to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation laboratory for examination after an accident Tuesday evening on North Third Street. Police had said they were investigating Thomas Randal, 40, Lawrence, as a suspect of drunken driving and failing to yield when his compact Toyota was struck broadside by a minivan while he attempted to turn left into a liquor store parking lot. No arrests have yet been made, said Kim Murphree, a police spokeswoman.

A passenger, Richard Kahle, 59, Lawrence, was flown to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., and a report on his condition was not available Wednesday, said hospital spokesman Dennis Minich.

¢ Lawrence police arrested an 18-year-old Lawrence man Tuesday morning on suspicion of breaking into three vehicles. A 68-year-old man reported hearing a door to a vehicle open about 6 a.m. Tuesday, and he tried to confront the suspect, who ran to the north.

An officer then found the suspect in the 2600 block of Century Drive, and he was linked to two other criminal damage and automobile burglaries reported in the 3000 block of Stevens Drive. The suspect remains in the Douglas County Jail in lieu of $6,000 bond.
