Law enforcement report

The Douglas County Sheriff’s office said this weekend that Ronald Fike, 51, of Lawrence, was the man killed in the motorized bicycle accident Friday evening south of Clinton Lake.

Fike was riding the bicycle to the west on County Road 458 when he appeared to turn to the north onto another county road. Instead, he suddenly made a U-turn in front of a minivan driven by an Osage County resident, said Lt. Kari Wempe, a sheriff spokeswoman.

Fike was struck and died later at the scene. Officers issued no tickets.

¢ A Lawrence man fell from a second-story window at Carson Place Apartments, 1121 La., early Saturday while at an apartment with friends.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical Capt. James King said that emergency crews treated the young man at the scene before sending him to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., by air ambulance with severe injuries.

King could provide no further details of the accident, and an update on the man’s condition was not available.
