LHS girls place first at Manhattan track
Manhattan ? The Lawrence High girls track team placed first and the boys fourth Friday in the 10-team Manhattan Invitational. The LHS girls scored 118 points to runner-up Junction City’s 110. The LHS boys scored 92.
The Lion girls went 1-2-3 in the pole vault. Lindsey Fisher topped Kara Kellison and Abby Jones, with all three clearing nine feet.
Jennifer Taylor won the 800 (2:22.87), Courtney Barber the high jump (5-2) and Amy Magnuson the triple jump (34-10).
On the boys side, Scott Penny won the shot put (54-51â4) and discus (158-6), Brian Houle the javelin (169-9), Nathan Hickey the 200 (22.49) and Brendan Halpin the pole vault (13-6).
“Our kids stepped up and did a good job. I don’t remember the last time our girls team won a meet this big,” LHS coach Scott Stidham said.
