Injury accidents
¢ A Lawrence woman was taken to a Topeka hospital Wednesday evening with an injury after her 1997 Pontiac Grand Am was rear-ended on Interstate 70 just east of Topeka near the entrance to the Kansas Turnpike.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, Erin Nielsen, 30, wore her seat belt when a 2000 Cadillac, driven by Dario Cacciani, 82, Iron River, Mich., struck her car from behind.
Cacciani and his passenger were not injured. A Stormont-Vail HealthCare nursing supervisor said on Thursday that Nielsen was no longer a patient at the hospital.
¢ No one suffered major injuries in a rollover accident Thursday evening on the Kansas Turnpike in the westbound lanes about 5 miles west of Lawrence.
According to a report with the Kansas Turnpike Authority, Patricia Reid, 80, of Topeka, failed to slow down as she approached slow-moving traffic.
At 50 to 60 miles per hour, Reid’s 2003 Buick car struck the 1980 Toyota truck of Donald Phelps, 52, Lawrence. The collision caused Phelps’ vehicle to roll over and slide on its top for about 80 feet, according to the report.
Phelps was not injured. Reid complained of back, chest and neck pain, but she refused treatment. Both drivers wore their seat belts.
