Slavic library to be dedicated at KU

The Fan and Stephen J. Parker Slavic Library will be formally dedicated at 4 p.m. today in Room 2120 at Wescoe Hall.

The library is named after professor Stephen Parker and his late mother, Fan Parker, a scholar of Russian literature. The library will house the Russian literature collection of Fan Parker, as well as the Joseph L. Conrad Slavic Collection, which focuses on Chekhov and Slavic folklore.

Conrad was a faculty member of the department of Slavic languages and literatures from 1966 until his death in December 2003.

The custom oak bookcases for the Parker Library were made possible by a donation from Stephen J. Parker and his family, plus other donors. The library will be used by Slavic department faculty, graduate students and undergraduate majors.
