Law enforcement report

¢ A Lawrence Police officer was taken to the hospital for treatment this week after being rear-ended by another vehicle on Iowa Street near Kansas Highway 10.

Officer Bruce Elliott, 41, was in his squad car about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday when his car was hit from behind by a vehicle driven by Therese K. Osterhaus, 20, Lawrence. She was cited for inattentive driving. A police report from the wreck wasn’t made available Friday.

¢ Lawrence Police this week arrested a 16-year-old male student after he threatened to harm students at Free State High School. The threat was reported to police by other students, LPD spokeswoman Kim Murphree said, but she would not elaborate on details of the threat. The teen was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

¢ Members of a hazardous material investigative team with Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical were sent Friday night to the grain elevators near the Midland Junction to investigate a possible theft of anhydrous ammonia.

A dispatcher said at 10:50 p.m. Friday that the team was on the scene with Douglas County Sheriff’s officers at the elevators north of Lawrence. A similar investigation happened there on Jan. 2. The tanks can be frequent targets for methamphetamine producers.
