Lawrence Police said Tuesday that in the past 24 hours they handled:
¢ 250 calls
¢ 36 reports
¢ six burglaries
¢ five thefts
¢ 11 non-injury accidents
¢ one injury accident
¢ At least 10 people reported their mailboxes damaged early Sunday in south Lawrence along West 27th Street, West 24th Street and the 2500 through 2900 blocks of Missouri Street. Total damage was estimated at $800.
¢ Lawrence Police arrested a 25-year-old Topeka woman Monday morning after she allegedly threatened a security guard with a knife after being confronted about trying to shoplift $293 in items from Wal-Mart, 3300 Iowa. The incident happened about 10:30 a.m. The woman drove away from the store, and police found her vehicle shortly afterward and arrested her, said Sgt. Dan Ward, a Lawrence Police spokesman. She was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery and other charges.
Injury accident
¢ Police on Tuesday released the names of the people involved in a wreck Sunday night at 31st and Iowa Streets.
¢ A 35-year-old Eudora woman was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Friday after her Buick Regal was struck by another vehicle as she pulled out of a fast food restaurant on West 23rd Street.
Stephanie L. Silvers, was pulling out of KFC, 658 W. 23rd St., and crossing 23rd Street when she failed to yield to a westbound 1997 Nissan Sentra driven by Ashley S. McGlinn, 21, Lawrence, according to a report. She was taken to LMH by ambulance, where she was treated and released.
Burglaries and thefts reported
¢ A 20-year-old Lawrence man reported more than $1,000 in compact discs and stereo equipment stolen between 11 p.m. Sunday and 6:15 a.m. Monday from his vehicle in the 1200 block of George Court.
¢ Police responded to a series of auto burglaries reported Sunday along Four Wheel Drive in south Lawrence. In one of the cases, four people reported having their vehicles burglarized between noon on Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of the street. Those four burglaries caused more than $3,280 in damage and property loss. Items stolen included compact discs and car stereos.
¢ A 22-year-old Kansas University student reported an $1,100 Apple iBook laptop computer stolen between 9 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday from the 2900 block of University Drive.
