LHS soccer falters in loss to SM Northwest

Lawrence High's Will Nagengast (21) fights for the ball with Shawnee Mission Northwest's Julian Carey. LHS lost, 3-0, Tuesday at the Youth Sports Inc. fields.

Shawnee Mission Northwest broke open a defensive struggle with three goals in the second half and held on for a 3-0 high school soccer victory over Lawrence High on Tuesday night at the Youth Sports Inc. field.

“We really played a great defensive first half,” LHS coach David Platt said. “We had some opportunities to score but just weren’t able to capitalize on them.

“We had strong center-midfield play from Kyle Craig and Joe Wessels,” Platt added. “Daniel Parker did a nice job on the outside. We’re taking small steps, and hopefully we’re going to get somewhere eventually.”

The Lions (1-3) will play host to Shawnee Mission West at 7 p.m. Thursday at YSI.
