Lawrence blanked by BV West

Lawrence High’s boys soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss Monday to Blue Valley West, the defending Class 5A state champion, at the Youth Sports Inc. fields.

“Both teams had their chances,” LHS coach David Platt said, “but neither team could capitalize.”

Lawrence held the Jaguars scoreless in the first half before switching from a five-man to a four-man defense for the second half.

“We added attackers in the second half, but we did not get enough touches,” Platt said.

Platt said the Blue Valley West defense stepped up in the second half to limit the Lions’ offensive touches.

“They seemed to clear the ball a lot better,” Platt said. “They were able to break our attacks down.

“It was an exciting game, though. You have to feel pretty good when you can hold any Blue Valley team to such a low score.”

The Lions will travel to Leavenworth for a game at 6:15 tonight.
