Rushdie to lecture for Humanities Series

Author Salman Rushdie will speak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Kansas University’s Lied Center as part of the Humanities Lecture Series.

In 1989, Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini issued a death sentence against Rushdie, in an angry response to his criticism of fundamentalist Islam in “The Satanic Verses.”

Tickets are free but required. They are available at the Lied Center’s box office or by calling 864-4798. They’re available at the KU Bookstore in Jayhawk Center on the Edwards Campus as well.

Rushdie also will be host to a colloquium at 10 a.m. Friday in Alderson Auditorium in the Kansas Union. No tickets are required for the colloquium.
