How they scored

FIRST QUARTER

5:04 – Scott Webb 48 field goal. A 14-play, 56-yard drive moved thanks to three third-down conversions, taking KU into the outskirts of field-goal range. The drive stalled, but with the wind aiding Webb, the sophomore easily booted the career-long field goal to draw first blood. (Kansas 3, Iowa State 0).

:44 – Jon Davis 4 pass from Bret Meyer. A backbreaking 42-yard completion from Meyer to Austin Flynn moved ISU to the Kansas 11-yard line. From there, it took the Cyclones three plays before Meyer found Davis in the corner of the end zone for 6. Bret Culbertson kick. (Iowa State 7, Kansas 3).

SECOND QUARTER

10:10 – Todd Blythe 27 pass from Bret Meyer. ISU took to the air often on its next offensive drive, going to Blythe three times in a nine-play drive. The last play found Blythe over the middle a step ahead of Charles Gordon, and the ISU sophomore walked in untouched. Culbertson kick. (Iowa State 14, Kansas 3).

THIRD QUARTER

5:58 – Scott Webb 33 field goal. Kansas moved the ball 64 yards after getting the football back off a punt. Kansas converted first downs on pass plays of 17 and 16 yards, but couldn’t move the ball closer than the 16-yard line. Webb booted the field goal with the wind at his back. (Iowa State 14, Kansas 6).

FOURTH QUARTER

11:28 – Brian Luke 1 run. A Jason Swanson completion to Derek Fine put KU 10 yards from the end zone, but Swanson appeared to injure his left knee on the play and was taken out. Luke came in, ran twice for seven yards, then handed off to Clark Green for two yards. On fourth down, Luke tried a sneak, and after an instant-replay review, it was determined he barely crossed the goal line. Luke pass to Fine for the two-point conversion. (Kansas 14, Iowa State 14).

8:41 – Ryan Kock 1 run. ISU marched right downfield on the ensuing drive, benefiting from a Nick Reid late-hit penalty on Meyer. Meyer completed a 38-yard pass to Blythe on the next play, and the Cyclones were within striking distance. A nine-play drive was finished off by Kock bullying up the middle for the score. Culbertson kick. (Iowa State 21, Kansas 14).

1:05 – Dexton Fields 15 pass from Luke. Luke moved 58 yards in 44 seconds, completing all four of his passes. On third down, Luke found Marcus Henry for a 35-yard gain, and Luke then found Fields between the hash marks for the touchdown on the next play. Scott Webb kick. (Kansas 21, Iowa State 21).

OVERTIME

KU – Scott Webb 34 field goal. After ISU’s Culbertson missed his overtime field-goal attempt, KU knew it only needed three and ran its offense conservatively. Three runs gained eight yards before Webb booted his attempt through with no problems. Webb’s teammates and fellow students mobbed him on the field after the referee’s signal. (Kansas 24, Iowa State 21).
