Injury accidents

¢ A woman was injured Wednesday night when her car went off the road and crashed through a barbed wire fence about 2 miles south of Lawrence. The woman, age 34, was taken by helicopter ambulance to a Kansas City area hospital. Her identity wasn’t released, pending notification of family, and her condition was not known.

The accident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. in the 1100 section of Douglas County Road 1055, according to a sheriff’s spokeswoman.

¢ An 18-year-old Baldwin woman was hospitalized Tuesday after a wreck at East 1750 and North 400 roads in southern Douglas County.

Melinda Brown was driving her Ford Escort north on East 175 Road when she pulled out in front of a Ford Explorer driven by Wendy Ashburn, 30, Douglas County Sheriff’s officials said. Brown’s vehicle then crashed into a barbed-wire fence. She was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment and cited for failure to yield.

¢ Alcohol was believed to be a factor in a wreck Tuesday night at 30th Street and Harrison Road.

Joseph M. Anderson, 20, Lawrence, was driving a Dodge pickup south on Harrison when he collided with another Dodge pickup driven westbound on 30th Street by Ryan T. Stephenson, Lawrence. Anderson and a passenger in Stephenson’s vehicle, 20-year-old Brandon Childers, of Lawrence, were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by ambulance, according to a report.

Police reported that alcohol was present in Stephenson’s vehicle.
