How they scored

FIRST QUARTER

7:53 – Limas Sweed 45 pass from Vince Young. Two runs totaling 20 yards by Ramonce Taylor started the drive, and a well-executed play-action ended it. Young dropped back after faking the handoff and threw a jump ball toward the end zone. KU corner Theo Baines covered it well, but Sweed’s height advantage allowed him to pull the ball down. David Pino kick. (Texas 7, Kansas 0).

7:40 – Jamaal Charles 10 run. Greg Heaggans never gained control of the ensuing kickoff and bobbled it away right into the hands of UT’s Robert Killebrew. On the very next play, Charles bruised his way to the end zone, fending off several Jayhawks on the way. Pino kick. (Texas 14, Kansas 0).

5:49 – Quan Cosby 64 pass from Vince Young. Charlton Keith started the drive stopping Ramonce Taylor for a five-yard loss, but pass completions of 32 and 64 yards gobbled up all the real estate. The second, while being interfered by Rodney Fowler, was caught by Cosby, who broke away and danced into the end zone. Pino kick. (Texas 21, Kansas 0).

2:29 – Aaron Ross 71 punt return. A Kyle Tucker punt was returned for minimal gain, but KU was called for holding and had to punt again. This time, Tucker booted one 55 yards, but Ross weaved his way upfield between the hash marks before finally breaking to the left and sprinting in nearly untouched. Pino kick. (Texas 28, Kansas 0).

SECOND QUARTER

12:13 – Ramonce Taylor 8 run. Texas again had an easy time moving the football, picking up 87 yards in nine plays, mostly by running the ball. A pass-interference penalty on Aqib Talib put Texas inside the 10, and Taylor changed directions and rumbled in on the right side for six. Pino kick. (Texas 35, Kansas 0).

10:19 – David Thomas 29 pass from Vince Young. Texas started on KU’s side of the field and needed just three plays – a two-yard scamper by Vince Young, a 16-yard run by Selvin Young and a 29-yard touchdown pass from Young to Thomas, who broke a tackle and rolled in. Pino kick. (Texas 42, Kansas 0).

4:13 – Peter Ullman 3 pass from Vince Young. The short field was the only thing stopping a long Texas drive. Aaron Ross intercepted a Jason Swanson pass and returned it to the 3-yard line. On UT’s first play on offense, Young bootlegged right and found Ullman in the back of the end zone. Pino kick. (Texas 49, Kansas 0).

:55 – David Pino 35 field goal. Texas almost coughed the ball up when Vince Young fumbled and lost 16 yards. Texas stayed in field-goal range, though, and Pino booted it through to give Texas 52 points before halftime. (Texas 52, Kansas 0).

THIRD QUARTER

14:14 – Jon Cornish 59 run. The second play of the second half was the first positive sign for KU all day. Cornish took a handoff, ran left of the line and up the field, where a seam allowed him to sprint free for the score up the left side. Scott Webb kick. (Texas 52, Kansas 7).

6:41 – Taylor 12 run. Texas started eating clock on its first possession of the second half, choosing to run the ball for most of it. Six first downs and 80 yards later, Taylor ran into the right side of the end zone for the score. Pino kick. (Texas 59, Kansas 7).

3:34 – Brandon McAnderson 15 run. KU had prime field position thanks to a Kevin Kane interception of backup quarterback Matt Nordgren’s pass. Clark Green had a 13-yard gain, then McAnderson sprinted in from 15 out for KU’s second score. Webb kick. (Texas 59, Kansas 14).

FOURTH QUARTER

14:53 – Selvin Young 21 run. Texas stopped passing altogether, but it didn’t stop the Horns from moving the ball. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Young ran through a seam on the left side and scored untouched. Pino kick. (Texas 66, Kansas 14).
