Authorities were responding to a report of a possible gunshot victim shortly before 5 p.m. today in a rural area in northwest Douglas County.

Dispatchers were reporting that the victim had a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the upper left chest.

A LifeStar ambulance helicopter had been sent to the scene.

The victim was in the 1900 section of E 175 Road, which is about four miles west of Lecompton.
