Accidents

  • A Lawrence man was injured in a two-car accident at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday on Kansas Highway 10 just west of the Johnson County line.

Jim T. Hopper, 22, was taken to University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan., according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. His condition was not available late Tuesday night. He was the driver of a westbound 1998 Ford Taurus. Another westbound car, a 1997 Mazda Millenia, also was involved and was driven by Ciera D. Steward, 16, Lawrence. She was not hurt.

The Highway Patrol report stated that the Mazda had overcorrected after it entered the north rock median. It re-entered the highway and sideswiped the Ford. The Ford crossed the median and then entered the eastbound lanes and continued into the southside ditch, striking a bridge rail and overturning. Hopper was ejected, the report said. The Mazda went into a spin and struck a guardrail.
