Gordon on watch list

Kansas University junior Charles Gordon was one of 50 college football players named to the 2005 Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list released this week.

The award, handed out by the Football Writers Association of America, is given to the best defensive player in college football at the end of each season. It has been awarded annually since 1993.

The FWAA All-America Committee selects the Nagurski winner from the 11-man All-America defensive team the association selects in late November.

Gordon, a cornerback, led all of NCAA Division I-A with seven interceptions last season, his first as a full-time defensive player.

He is joined by four other Big 12 Conference players on the watch list: Oklahoma linebacker Rufus Alexander, Oklahoma defensive end Larry Birdine, Texas defensive back Michael Huff and Texas defensive tackle Rodrique Wright.
