Lawrence Police announced late Tuesday that a Lawrence man had been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of a 3-year-old girl.

Jason W. Dillon, 22, and the victim’s mother, who name was unavailable, brought the victim to Lawrence Memorial Hospital around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, and staff called Lawrence Police to investigate the head injury as a possible child abuse case. The victim died Sunday at a Kansas City-area hospital.

Police arrested Dillon Tuesday after performing an autopsy on the victim and determining that the death was a homicide. He is being held in Douglas County Jail.

The case has been turned over to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
