Kansas University junior cornerback Charles Gordon has been named to the Blue Ribbon College Football Yearbook All-America Team. Gordon led the Big 12 Conference and tied for the NCAA Division I-A lead with seven interceptions last season.

Jets slice Whittemore

Bill Whittemore’s stay with the New York Jets was a short one.

Two weeks after signing the former Kansas University quarterback to a free-agent contract, the Jets released Whittemore on Wednesday. He signed with the Jets on May 23.

Whittemore’s first stint with an NFL team was as an undrafted free agent with Atlanta in 2004. He was waived by Atlanta on July 1, 2004, then spent a season with the Arena Football League’s Nashville Kats.
