Lawrence Police said Tuesday that in the past 24 hours they handled:

¢ A 22-year-old Kansas University student told police an acquaintance raped her early Saturday morning. The woman told police she went out with friends and got intoxicated, went back to a friend’s home, and passed out. When she woke up, sometime between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., she told police, a 29-year-old man was having sex with her. She reported the incident that afternoon.
Police have identified the suspect and continued to investigate on Tuesday.
¢ Investigators believe a small fire Monday night at a storage business in south Lawrence may have been intentionally set.
Crews responded to a fire about 10:30 p.m. inside a storage unit at A-1 Mini Storage, 2910 Iowa St. The unit was used to store unwanted and discarded items, and the fire caused an undetermined amount of smoke damage to neighboring storage units.
Fire Marshal Rich Barr said it appeared someone had set the fire, in part because there was no obvious ignition source. Anyone with information about the fire can call the Crime Stoppers hot line at 843-TIPS.
Burglaries and thefts
¢ A 21-year-old Kansas University student reported that someone used her bank-card number to make three withdrawals totaling $244 from ATM machines in Romania. The thefts happened on July 21. According to a report, the woman has reported the thefts to the Federal Trade Commission and the Kansas Attorney General’s Office but was instructed to file a local police report.
It wasn’t clear from a police report whether the actual card had been stolen.
¢ Police are investigating the theft of $1,371 from Econolodge, 2222 W. Sixth St., as a possible inside job. Money from a bank-deposit bag was discovered missing from the hotel on Saturday.
¢ A 48-year-old Lawrence woman told police an unknown suspect stole 32 NASCAR models valued at $3,200 total from her home in the 3900 block of West 10th Street. The theft happened between 4:30 p.m. Monday and 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to a report.
Injury accident
A woman was injured Tuesday afternoon when the sport utility vehicle she was driving hydroplaned and went out of control on Kansas Highway 10 on the east edge of Lawrence.
The victim, Tara R. Wisley, 31, Lawrence, was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released, a nursing supervisor said.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Wisely was westbound on K-10 about 4:30 p.m. when the vehicle left the highway, struck a delineator post and entered the East Hills Business Park road entrance. It then struck a concrete median and toppled onto the driver’s side.
Wisley was the only person in the SUV and no other vehicles were involved.
