Burglaries and thefts reported
- Police responded to at least nine auto burglaries Monday morning in the 800 through 1000 blocks of New York and New Jersey Streets, according to police reports.
The thefts happened around 3 a.m. In some cases, no items were taken, but the cars were damaged.
- Someone took $4,000 in tools between Thursday night and Friday morning from two trucks in the 800 block of Maple Street. The items belonged to Mulford Tree Service.
Accidents
- Three people were injured Tuesday night in a two-vehicle accident west of Perry at the intersection of U.S. Highway 24 and Kansas Highway 237.
The injured were identified by the Kansas Highway Patrol as Charles E. Gantz, 46, Valley Falls; Carrie A. Zumbrum, 34, Meriden; and Megan M. Zumbrum, 2, Meriden. Gantz was taken by ambulance to St. Francis hospital in Topeka, while the Zumbrums were taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center. There was no word late Tuesday on their conditions.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1992 Dodge Caravan driven by Gantz was westbound on Highway 24, attempted to turn north on Kansas 237 and failed to yield to oncoming traffic. The Dodge struck a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Carrie Zumbrum.
