LHS girls fall to Aquinas

? Senior point guard Drew Huff hit five three pointers and scored 18 points in Lawrence High’s 75-42 girls basketball loss to Class 5A power Overland Park Aquinas on Monday night.

Sydney Wilson scored 11 points for the Lions, 1-4. KU signee Lindsay Ballweg scored 18 for Aquinas, 3-0.

“Drew was the highlight for us,” LHS coach Kristin Mallory said. “She had the ball in her hands a ton and only had three turnovers. Most of those were trying to make things happen and create. People weren’t getting open. It puts a lot of stress on Drew at the top to create and make things happen.

“They shot well,” Mallory added of Aquinas’ players. “On four of five possessions they hit a three. It was crazy.”

Of future Jayhawk Ballweg, Mallory said: “She is good, really good. She finds a way to score. She defends well, creates havoc. She doesn’t sit back.”

The Lions travel to SM Northwest on Thursday.
