KU singled out for effort to enhance achievement

Kansas University is among 20 institutions across the nation singled out for its efforts to enhance student achievement.

KU appears alongside the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, the University of Texas-El Paso and others.

The institutions appear in the book “Student Success in College: Creating Conditions that Matter,” released in April.

The institutions have developed approaches to foster student success, said George Kuh, an Indiana University professor who led the project and co-authored the book.

KU was recognized for having a clear institutional mission, high standards for student performance, an emphasis on the start of a student’s academic career, student collaboration and other traits.

Other institutions recognized include: Alverno College in Wisconsin; California State University at Monterey Bay; The Evergreen State College in Washington; Fayetteville (N.C.) State University; George Mason University in Virginia and Gonzaga University in Washington.
