— The following is a statement from Kansas head coach Bill Self involving KU men's basketball sophomore Rodrick Stewart in an incident that happened at a local establishment - Abe and Jake's - early Sunday.

"We are aware that last night at Abe and Jake's more than one fight broke out inside," Self said. "All reports we have received are that a fight broke out on a crowded set of stairs that Rodrick Stewart was using to exit the premises. Rodrick was hit over the head with some form of blunt instrument while he was exiting. All reports we have received indicate Rodrick had no involvement in the altercation other than him being hit over the head while going up the stairs. He received four staples to the top of his head and is feeling fine today. Rodrick's being at Abe and Jake's did not violate team policies."

" Rodrick's being at Abe and Jakes did not violate team policies."
    Nope, just the law.

I admire Abe and Jake's for providing the venue, on very short notice, for VP candidate John Edwards' visit to Lawrence last summer.

AND I admire the fine job the police did in crowd control.

How did him being at abe and jakes violate the law? I may be wrong but if it's 18 and up to get in (which I think it was saturday night) is he not 18 yet?

I don't think he did anything wrong, other than being i the wrong place at the wrong time. Bill Self was quick to comment on it and said that he hadn't violated any rules. Let's hope he's OK and it doesn't become an issue.

it is 18 and over to get in, 21 and over to drink. so why do you all think he broke the law? correct me if i'm wrong, but the KU men's basketball players take a lot of heat for being at clubs, but, legally, they are doing nothing to violate the law by being at an 18+ event. Rodrick, keep fighting the good fight.
