Kansas hoops coaches get raises

Kansas University men’s basketball coaches Bill Self and women’s basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson each received increases in their base rate for annual salaries this year, while football coach Mark Mangino’s stayed the same.

Figures provided by the KU athletic department showed that Self will make $142,641 in base salary for fiscal year 2005-06, an increase of $6,792 from FY 2004-05.

Self also is guarateed multimedia and sports-equipment and apparel income, as well as other benefits that boost his annual income to more than $1 million.

Those figures are set in a contract, according to associate athletic director Jim Marchiony, and do not increase over the years.

Henrickson, meanwhile, will receive $135,765 in base pay, an increase of $6,465. Her benefits package includes another $250,000 in multimedia and public-relations payments, as well as other perks.

Mangino’s base salary stayed at $135,849, with a television and endorsements package boosting his income to over $600,000 a year.

Like Self and Henrickson, he receives perks as well, ranging from country-club memberships to a $2 million term-life insurance policy.
