KU art department announces new hires

Kansas University has hired an associate and assistant professor to join the art department faculty.

Matthew Burke, the associate professor, earned his Bachelor of Arts at Colby College in Waterville, Md., and earned his Master of Fine Arts in sculpture at Queens College in New York.

He worked as adjunct assistant professor at St. John’s University in Queens, as visiting assistant professor at Dartmouth College and was a teaching assistant for an Introduction to Drawing and 3-D Design class at Queens College.

Shawn Bitters will join the faculty as an assistant professor in printmaking. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Bitters also earned his certificate for collegiate teaching at Sheridan Center for Collegiate Teaching at Brown University in Providence, R.I. He earned his Master of Fine Arts in printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence.

Bitters comes to KU from the Rhode Island School of Design, where he worked as instructor of record, and he also worked for a year as the installation technician at the RISD
