Law enforcement report

A road rage incident escalated to near violence after a driver pulled a gun on another motorist in a South Lawrence parking lot. The incident happened just after 4 p.m. Thursday, but the police report was made available Monday. A police spokesman said the 18-year-old victim was pulling out of the parking lot at Payless ShoeSource, 3231 Iowa, when he cut off a car driving on the frontage road, near 31st Street and Neider Road.

Police said the driver of that car then threatened the teen with a handgun.

Police got the license plate number and were able to track down the suspect. Officers recovered a 9 mm handgun and ammunition. The suspect was not arrested. The case will be forwarded to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review.

¢ Lawrence police have arrested a 57-year-old transient accused of stalking a 22-year-old woman over the past three months. Police alleged the man has been lurking outside the woman’s East Lawrence home. Officers were called there just before 11 p.m. Friday night.

The man had left the area by the time police arrived, but officers arrested him the next day.

The man was booked into the Douglas County Jail on stalking charges but later released when the district attorney’s office did not file charges.
