A daily happening at 10th and Kentucky thanks to the community shelter since it started the wet shelter.
JW, please incorporate the calls to the wet shelter in your police reports so the citizens of Lawrence can get a clear picture of the volume of calls to that corner.
A photo of the drunks sitting on the lawn drinking their vodka or a wider photo shot of both sides of the street while they loiter, trash, disrupt the neighborhood will graphically tell a story.
I earlier linked to a story that showed the more money and services made available to the indigent the more that was needed. When the city of Lawrence agreed to finance this wet shelter it made a mistake, a very destructive mistake. Expensive in more ways than money.
At LINK, it is now the director and the attending board of directors that need hauled off to jail for not calling the police more often on these violent drunks. The helpers have become the problem greater than the drunks due to their enabling.

The Poverty Pimps' Poem
Let us celebrate the poor,
Let us hawk them door to door.
There's a market for their pain,
Votes and glory and money to gain.
Let us celebrate the poor.
Their ills, their sins, their faulty diction
flavor our songs and spice our fiction.
Their hopes and struggles and agonies
Get us grants and consulting fees.
Celebrate thugs and clowns,
Give their ignorance all renown.
Celebrate what holds them down,
In our academic gowns.
Let us celebrate the poor
