Manhattan Lawrence High's Scott Penny won the shot put and placed second in the discus, Ramin Zangeneh was second in the pole vault, and Richard Demby was runner-up in the 110 hurdles as LHS placed third in the boys team track-and-field standings Friday at the Manhattan Invitational.
Penny was the Lions' lone winner after a shot put of 51 feet, 2 inches. He was second in the discus at 159-4. Zangeneh cleared 12-6 to finish second in the vault, and Demby cleared the 110 hurdles in 14.8 seconds.
Topeka Seaman won the team title with 85 points and was followed by Junction City (84) and LHS (73).
"We had a good meet," Lawrence coach Scott Stidham said. "The kids competed hard, and there were a lot of personal records. The 4X400 relay on the boys side ran and PR'd by over three seconds. That's a pretty good chunk this time of year. They're working hard in practice, and it's starting to pay off, and this was a tough meet with some good teams."
That 4X400 relay team of Demby, Justin Long, Nolan Kellerman and Nathan Hickey placed third in 3:29.35.
The LHS girls were 10th in the team standings with 14 points. Junction City won with 100.5 points.
Laura Windheuser was the top LHS placer with a third-place showing -- at 8-6 -- in the pole vault.
The Lions will hold a varsity-JV on Thursday, then compete next weekend at the Kansas Relays.
