Lions’ bats wake up

? It took roughly three innings for the engine to warm up Thursday for the Lawrence High baseball team, but once it did, the Lions blazed the basepaths to the tune of 12 runs on 13 hits.

The Lions’ 12-3 rout at Olathe Northwest bumped their record to 4-6 under first-year coach Brad Stoll, who gave his team’s performance rave reviews.

“We started off the first time through the lineup, we were swinging and aggressive, but just making bad contact,” Stoll said. “We busted out after three innings.”

LHS was powered by two-run triples from both Michael Sickinger and Will Falk.

Starting pitcher Matt Wingert worked all seven innings for the Lions, surrendering just one walk and keeping the Ravens’ offense to a minimum.

“Matt worked fast, threw a lot of strikes, and the pace of the game was phenomenal,” Stoll said. “It was a well played game on our end.”

LHS will play host Tuesday to Shawnee Mission North.
