LHS loses two to SMW
Shawnee ? Lawrence High’s softball squad is ready to end its season-opening road trip.
The Lions dropped a pair of games Tuesday at Shawnee Mission West, falling 2-1 in the opener and 10-0 in a six-inning nightcap.
LHS kept the first game close thanks to pitcher Whitney Juneau, but the Lions couldn’t get their offense pumping. Juneau and Caitlin Bowlin each doubled in the first game for LHS.
In the second game, seven Lions errors made pitcher Lisa Pearse’s job virtually impossible.
And, after a 4-0 start was brought back down to earth by Tuesday’s losses, LHS coach Reenie Stogsdill said the Lions couldn’t wait for their home opener at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday against Olathe South.
“It’ll be nice to get back home,” she said. “We played pretty well the first game, but Shawnee Mission Northwest is a very sound team, and they have some great hitters. They kind of stuck it to us in the second game.”
And those second-game mistakes, Stogsdill said, were a killer.
“We let one error lead to another, and we couldn’t stop the bleeding,” she said.
