Rain not likely for hill walk

About 4,000 of the more than 6,400 members of Kansas University’s Class of 2004 will begin the traditional walk down Campanile Hill at 2:30 p.m. today. Chancellor Robert Hemenway will confer degrees beginning about 3:30 p.m.

Unless it rains.

Forecasters were predicting a chance of rain earlier this week, but by Saturday evening the National Weather Service said today’s weather should be partly sunny with a high near 87 for KU’s 132nd commencement exercises.

If it does rain, a decision will be announced at 1 p.m. to attempt to hold the ceremony at 4:30 p.m. If it’s still raining, another attempt will be made to hold it at 6:30 p.m. If the rain continues, the ceremony will be at 9 a.m. Monday.

Any inclement weather postponements will be announced through the KU Info Center, 864-3506, www.ljworld.com, Sunflower Broadband Channel 6 and radio stations, including KJHK-FM, 90.7; KANU-FM 91.5; KLZR-FM 105.9 and KLWN-AM, 1320.
