Lecture Series

The Hall Center for the Humanities will be host to a lecture series to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Kansas Territory.

All lectures will begin at 6:30 p.m., Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.

Here’s the lecture schedule:

  • Sept. 2: “Political Characters in Territorial Kansas” with Virgil Dean, of the Kansas State Historical Society.
  • Sept. 9: “John Steuart Curry’s Vision of Territorial Kansas” with Kansas University professors Bill Tsutsui and Marjorie Swann.
  • Sept. 16: “Life in Kansas Territory: Toil and Turmoil from the Letters of John and Sarah Everett” with Pat Michaelis, of the Kansas State Historical Society.
  • Sept. 23: “Crime and Violence in Douglas County, 1855-1865” with KU law professors Suzanne Valdez Carey and Mike Hoeflich.
