Security tight for visit to KU from U.S. military’s top general
Authorities were making sure that the Kansas University Alumni Center was safe this afternoon before a visit from Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

At right, one of three Kansas Highway Patrol canine units heads inside the alumni center about 2 p.m. The dogs looked through the parking lot and the building, securing the area before Myers’ visit.
Myers spoke about 4:15 p.m today at the alumni center to KU ROTC cadets and will be freatured tonight as the keynote speaker at the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce annual meeting and dinner.
The chamber event, which will start with a 6 p.m. social hour, will take place at the Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive. It is open to chamber members and by invitation only.
Myers was born in Kansas City, Mo., and is a 1965 graduate of Kansas State University.
