Fashion show to feature ‘anti-sweatshop’ styles

Kansas University Greens club will present a fashion show next month featuring “anti-sweatshop” designs.

The event will be at 8:30 a.m. May 1 at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H.

Models will wear designs made with natural dyes, recycled and reconstructed fabrics, wearable art and handmade clothes. The show also will feature clothing made by manufacturers that don’t use sweatshop labor.

Harvard professor to discuss bird evolution

The evolution of birds will be the topic of a lecture this week at Kansas University.

Scott Edwards, professor of organismic and evolutionary biology at Harvard University, will present “The Evolution of Birds: A DNA Trail” at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in 1005 Haworth Hall.

Edwards, who also is curator of the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard, focuses his research on the diversity and evolutionary biology of birds and their relatives.

The lecture, sponsored by the department of ecology and evolutionary biology, is free and open to the public.
