Topeka ? Lawrence High’s girls soccer squad fell to Washburn Rural, 2-0, on Friday, but LHS co-coach Matt Makens wasn’t feeling gloomy.

“Rural is predominantly always a very strong team,” he said. “We competed very well. We had a lot of confidence throughout the game, which was nice to see.”

The Lions, who fell to 1-6, play host Tuesday to Topeka High.

“I don’t think this group will ever give up,” Makens said.
