After-hours park visitor cited for making threat

Lawrence Police cited a man on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct early Thursday after an incident in Riverfront Park, Eighth and Oak streets.

A group of five people said they were approached by a group of nine men about 2 a.m. near the park’s boat ramp. One of the men threatened to have a gun and told the victims to leave the park, police said.

Police who arrived at the park determined there really wasn’t a gun, but they cited a 23-year-old man accused of making the threat and gave him a notice to appear in Municipal Court.

Police also documented that all people involved were in the park after hours.
