KU fall enrollment sets record

Kansas University has set a record for enrollment this fall, university officials announced Thursday.

There are 29,272 students enrolled at the university, more than the previous record set in 1992. Enrollment is up 423 students, or 1.5 percent, from last year.

KU also hit a new best for freshman retention rate. Eighty-two percent of last year’s freshmen returned as sophomores.

Other state universities saw mixed results in enrollment this fall, ranging from a loss of 4.1 percent at Wichita State University to a 15.3 percent increase at Fort Hays State University. Other state university enrollment changes were Kansas State University, 1.3 percent increase; Pittsburg State University, 0.3 percent decrease; and Emporia State University, 4.5 percent increase.
