Lions tennis players flounder at invite

? Lawrence High senior Sydney Lartigue finished fourth at the Topeka Invitational Wednesday, going 2-2 at No. 1 singles.

Lartigue won her first two matches before dropping her last two. At No. 2 singles, junior Amy Bullerman finished fifth after dropping her first match and winning her last two. The doubles teams of April Merino-Brammell and Sarah Wilson, and Meredith Bush and A.K. Woolsey both finished ninth.

“Today the lessons were, ‘How to play in the wind,’ ‘The importance of winning the first match in a tournament,’ and ‘Winning doubles through better movement,'” LHS coach Dick Wedel said. “The trick will be, of course, to see if we can carry over the knowledge to the next match.”

LHS will play Saturday in the Liberty (Mo.) Invitational.
