LHS baseball routs SM West

? Taylor Martin tossed a two-hitter for Lawrence High Wednesday in a 10-0 victory against Shawnee Mission West that ended after five innings at 3&2 fields.

The Lions (10-4, 5-3 Sunflower League) bounced back from Saturday’s 8-7, extra-inning loss at Free State. LHS will face the Firebirds again at 5:30 tonight at Ice Field.

“I thought we played pretty well against them last Saturday, and we were able to follow that up with another pretty good game tonight,” LHS coach David Petry said. “I hope it carries over into tomorrow.”

Martin (2-1) struck out five and walked two in the shutout.

“I thought tonight was the first time in a while we were able to put all three phases of game together,” Petry said.

McManness was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and drove in two runs. Ryan Engle also was 2-for-3 with two runs.

The Lions jumped on the Cougars (12-6) early with two runs in each of the first two innings, then blew the game open with a six-run third inning.

Austin Engling drew a one-out walk, and McManness followed with a double. Engle, Matt Johnson and Tommy Mangino strung together consecutive RBI singles. Carl Lisher drew another walk, and Aaron Madill reached on an error. Dominick Harrell capped the big inning with a sacrifice fly.
